Q1x00096_9_2 Conservation International reports that scientists have discovered what they believe are two new species hidden inside a tropical forest in New Guinea.

The Cercartetus pygmy possum and Mallomys giant rat were encountered during an exhibition to the Foja Mountains in western New Guinea.

"It’s comforting to know that there is a place on earth so isolated that it remains the absolute realm of wild nature," Bruce Beehler, the scientist who led the expedition, says in a statement. "We were pleased to see that this little piece of Eden remains as pristine and enchanting as it was when we first visited."
